How to remove AI images from Pinterest

Pinterest can show you fewer AI images, not none. Here is what its setting and its AI modified label do, what an extension can hide in a browser, and why some always get through.

Pinterest has no setting that removes AI images. It has one that shows you fewer of them in some categories, and it labels some of the ones it finds. Its help page describes the setting as a way to “see fewer AI Pins in certain categories in your feed”.

What you can do depends on where you use Pinterest:

In Pinterest itself, on a computer or an Android phone, you can ask for fewer AI pins in a set list of categories.
In a browser on a computer, an extension can hide the pins Pinterest has identified as AI.
If you mostly go back to boards you’ve already made, you can open them in a separate app that shows only what you saved.

None of these catches every AI image, and this page explains why. It starts with the label, because everything else depends on it.

What “AI modified” means on Pinterest

When Pinterest decides a pin was made or changed with AI, it adds a label. Open the pin and you will see AI modified at the bottom left of the close-up.

Pinterest’s help page on the labels gives three ways a pin gets one:

The image file carries information, under a standard photo agencies use, saying AI made or changed it.
Pinterest’s own detection judges that it was.
The person who uploaded it said so.

Ads are labelled differently. The label doesn’t appear on the close-up. Open the three-dot menu next to the ad and it appears with the other details about the ad.

If one of your own pins has a label you think is wrong, Pinterest says to contact its support team to appeal.

Pinterest’s own setting: see fewer AI pins

Pinterest added this in October 2025. When it announced the setting, it listed these categories: architecture, art, beauty, entertainment, men’s, women’s and children’s fashion, health, home décor and sport. Food and drink was added in December 2025.

On a computer: click the More options icon at the bottom left of the screen, choose Refine your recommendations and open the AI content tab. Pick the categories you want less AI in.
On Android: tap your profile picture in the bottom right, then your profile photo in the top left. Tap Refine your recommendations and open the GenAI interests tab.
On a business account in the app: tap your profile photo, then the three-dot menu in the top right, Settings and Refine your recommendations.
On an iPhone or iPad: Pinterest’s help page still says this is “coming soon” to iOS. If you don’t see the tab, you can set it on a computer instead. Pinterest doesn’t say whether a choice made there carries over to the iPhone app.

What to expect once it is on:

Fewer, not none. Pinterest describes it as seeing less AI content, not turning it off.
Only in those categories. A category that isn’t on the list isn’t covered.
In your feed. Pinterest describes the setting as applying to your feed. Its help pages don’t say it changes search results.
Not ads. Pinterest says changing your recommendations doesn’t affect the ads you see.
It depends on detection. The setting can only act on pins Pinterest has recognised as AI.

A different setting: Pinterest using your pins to train its AI

Some people searching for how to turn off AI on Pinterest are after something else. Pinterest trains its own image model, Pinterest Canvas, on pins people save and upload, and you can opt out of your pins being used. Its help page on GenAI settings gives the steps:

On a computer: click the More options icon at the bottom left, then Settings and Privacy and data. Untick Use your data to train Pinterest Canvas and click Save.
In the app: tap your profile picture in the bottom right, then your profile photo in the top left. Tap Privacy and data and switch off Use your data to train Pinterest Canvas.

If you are under 18, Pinterest opts you out automatically. The setting changes how your pins are used, not what you see.

In a browser on a computer

An extension can take AI pins out of the page. We make a free one called Pinter.

Pinter hides ads from the moment you install it. Hiding AI images is off until you choose it: open Pinter and switch on AI and AI modified images. It then removes pins that Pinterest has identified as AI from your home feed, search results, boards and the pins suggested under a pin, and the grid closes up so there are no gaps.

What to know before you rely on it:

It relies on a marker Pinterest attaches to pins it has identified as AI. The marker isn’t documented, and Pinterest misses a lot, so plenty of AI images get through.
To catch more, you can list words. Pinter hides any pin whose title, description, image description, website or pinner name contains one. Words such as “midjourney” or “AI generated” catch pins whose uploader said what they were. They can also hide the odd real photo whose description happens to use them.
It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc on a computer. It doesn’t work on a phone, and it can’t reach inside the Pinterest app.
When you change a filter, pins already on screen stay until you reload the page.
When you save your filters, Pinter sends your choices to our analytics. The Pinter page says exactly what.

Why some AI images always get through

Pinterest finds AI images in the three ways above: information in the file, its own detection, and what the uploader tells it. An image with no such information, made to look real, by someone who doesn’t say it is AI, depends on detection alone. Pinterest says it is still working on better ways to identify AI content.

So every tool on this page, Pinterest’s setting included, finds fewer AI images than there are. If an unlabelled one turns up in your home feed, open the three-dot menu on it and choose See fewer like this. Pinterest says this helps it understand what you don’t want to see.

Your own boards, without the feed

AI pins mostly reach you through the feed, search and suggestions: things you didn’t choose. If what you go back to Pinterest for is your own boards, you can open them without any of that.

Can you turn off AI on Pinterest?

No. Pinterest lets you see fewer AI pins in certain categories in your feed. It doesn’t offer a way to turn them off.

What does “AI modified” mean on Pinterest?

It means Pinterest believes the image was made or changed with AI. It adds the label when the file says so, when its own detection finds it, or when the uploader said so.

How do I turn off AI on Pinterest on an iPhone?

At the time of writing, Pinterest’s help page says the AI content setting isn’t on iOS yet. It is on computers and Android. Pinterest doesn’t say whether choosing it there changes what the iPhone app shows.

Does the AI setting change Pinterest search results?

Does Pinx remove AI images?
