Who we are

This policy covers the Pinx apps for iPhone, iPad and Android, and the website at pinxapp.com (“Pinx”, “we”, “us”). Pinx is an independent app and is not affiliated with Pinterest, Inc.

No Pinx account

You don’t create an account with Pinx and we don’t ask for your email address to use the app. You sign in with your Pinterest account, and everything Pinx shows comes from Pinterest or from your own iPhone.

Signing in with Pinterest

When you tap “Continue with Pinterest”, you approve Pinx on Pinterest’s own sign-in page. Pinx never sees your Pinterest password. Pinx asks only for read access:

• boards:read and boards:read_secret — to list your boards, including secret ones
• pins:read and pins:read_secret — to show the pins on them
• user_accounts:read — to show your Pinterest username and profile

Pinx cannot post, save, move, change or delete anything on Pinterest.

To finish signing in, and to refresh your session later, the app sends a one-time code or refresh token to the Pinx backend (hosted on Vercel). The backend adds Pinx’s Pinterest client secret, passes the request to Pinterest and returns Pinterest’s answer to your iPhone. It does not store your tokens. The tokens are kept in your iPhone’s keychain.

You can remove Pinx’s access at any time in your Pinterest settings, or by signing out in Pinx.

What stays on your phone

These are stored only on your device and are never uploaded by Pinx:

• Private notes and tags you add to pins
• Shortlists
• The search index built from your boards, pins, notes and tags
• Boards and images you download for offline use
• Your choice of free boards and your display settings

Deleting the app deletes this data. Pinx doesn’t back it up to any server of ours.

On iPhone and iPad, boards, shortlists and pins you’ve worked with are also added to your device’s Spotlight index, and board and shortlist names are shared with Siri so you can ask for them by name. This is handled by iOS on your device and is cleared when you sign out.

On Android, the same boards, shortlists and pins are added to your phone’s on-device search index, and board and shortlist names are published as app shortcuts, which Android shares with your launcher and Google Assistant so you can open them by name. These are also cleared when you sign out.

Web links you publish

Web links are the only way Pinx puts your content on a server, and only when you choose to publish one. When you publish, Pinx stores a snapshot on Amazon Web Services (S3, London region, eu-west-2) containing: the page title and any intro text you write, and for each pin you chose its title, description, image address and size, main colour, source link, Pinterest link, and the caption you write.

Your private notes are not included unless you tap “Use My Note”, which copies that note into the public caption. Your Pinterest username is not included.

Anyone with the link can view the page. Pages are unlisted and marked so search engines don’t index them. Images load from Pinterest’s servers. You can edit a page or revoke it from the Web Links screen; revoking deletes the snapshot. A secret key that lets you edit or revoke the page stays in your iPhone’s keychain — we store only a one-way hash of it.

Purchases

Pinx Pro is sold through Apple’s App Store on iPhone and iPad, and through Google Play on Android. Apple or Google processes your payment; we never see your card details. We use RevenueCat to check whether you’ve bought Pro and to restore it. RevenueCat receives your purchase receipts from Apple or Google and an app user ID, which is your Pinterest account ID, so that Pro follows your Pinterest account. RevenueCat’s privacy policy is at revenuecat.com/privacy.

App analytics

The app sends a small number of usage events to Aptabase, an analytics service hosted in the EU, to help us understand which features are used. Events include signing in and out, opening the upgrade screen, upgrading or restoring Pro, choosing free boards, downloading a board, exporting, saving pins to Photos, adding a pin from a link, creating or revoking a web link, changing the pin filter and building the search index. Some events carry counts, such as how many pins were exported.

Each event includes the app version, iOS or Android version, device locale and a random session ID that changes every time the app starts. When you sign in, one event includes your Pinterest username, which links that session’s events to your Pinterest account.

We don’t send the content of your notes, tags, searches or pins to analytics, and we don’t use advertising identifiers or track you across other apps.

This website

pinxapp.com is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard request data such as IP addresses to serve the site; we use your country (from Vercel) only to show prices in pounds or dollars. The site uses the Pinterest Tag to measure page views and clicks on the App Store button, so we can understand whether our Pinterest promotion works. Pinterest may set cookies for this; see Pinterest’s privacy policy.

If you use the contact form, your name, email address, subject and message are sent to us by email through Postmark. We use them only to reply.

Pinter for Chrome

Pinter, our Chrome extension, filters Pinterest inside your browser. It only runs on pinterest.com, has no account, and doesn’t change your Pinterest settings. Your filter choices and blocked words are saved in Chrome on your computer.

Pinter sends usage events to Aptabase, the same EU-hosted analytics service the app uses. It sends an event when Pinter is installed or updated, and each time you press Save and reload it sends your preferences: which filters are on (ads, suggestions, video, frozen video, shopping and AI images), your blocked words, and your Pinterest username, which Pinter reads from the Pinterest page you have open. We use this to understand which filters people rely on. The extension says this next to both Save buttons.

Each event also includes the extension version, your browser’s language and operating system, and a random session ID that lasts until you close the browser. Pinter doesn’t send the pins you see, what you search for or your browsing history, and nothing is used for advertising. To stop the events, don’t press Save and reload, or remove the extension.

Who processes data for us

We don’t sell or rent your data, and we don’t share it for advertising. These providers process data on our behalf, only as described above:

• Pinterest — sign-in and the boards and pins Pinx displays
• Vercel — the Pinx backend and this website
• Amazon Web Services — storage for published web links
• Apple and RevenueCat — purchases
• Aptabase — analytics for the app and for Pinter
• Postmark — contact form email

We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep things

• Web links: until you revoke them.
• Contact messages: as long as needed to deal with your request.
• Analytics events: according to Aptabase’s retention settings for our account.
• Everything on your phone: until you delete it, sign out or delete the app.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export personal data we hold, and to object to how we use it. Email hello@pinxapp.com and we’ll help. You can revoke a web link yourself at any time, and remove Pinx’s access to Pinterest in your Pinterest settings.

Children

Pinx is not intended for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect personal data from them.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes we’ll also let you know in the app.
