How to get rid of ads on Pinterest
Pinterest has no setting that turns ads off. Here is what its settings do change, what an extension can hide in a browser, and how to open your own boards without ads on a phone.

Pinterest has no switch that turns ads off, and there is no paid version without them. Its own help page on ads says so: “While you can’t turn off ads completely, you can limit the kinds of information we use to pick which ads you see.”
What you can do depends on where you use Pinterest:
- In a browser on a computer, an extension can take the ads out of the page.
- In the Pinterest app on a phone or tablet, nothing removes them. You can change which ads you see, not how many.
- If you mostly go back to boards you’ve already made, you can open those boards in a separate app that has no ads, because it has no feed.
This page goes through each in turn, starting with what Pinterest itself offers.
What Pinterest’s own settings do
Pinterest gives you three controls. None of them is described as reducing the number of ads.
Hide an ad
Open the three-dot menu on the ad and tell Pinterest you want to see fewer like it. Pinterest says it uses this feedback “to make sure you see more relevant ads in the future”. It is a way of steering the ads, not of having fewer.
Block an advertiser
Open the advertiser’s profile, open the three-dot menu (on a business account it is in the top right-hand corner of the profile), choose Block and confirm. Pinterest lets you block up to 1,000 advertisers. This is worth doing for one company whose ads you keep seeing. It does nothing about everyone else’s.
Turn off personalised ads
This stops Pinterest using what advertisers know about you from outside Pinterest, such as a shop’s customer list or the pages you visited on its website, to choose your ads.
- On a computer: open Settings, then Privacy and data, untick Use of partner info and click Save.
- In the app: tap your profile picture in the bottom right, then your profile photo in the top left to open settings. Tap Privacy and data and switch off Use of partner info.
You will see the same number of ads, chosen with less information about you. Pinterest notes that the setting doesn’t cover purchases you start on Pinterest.
Your phone has a matching setting. On an iPhone, go to Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking and switch Pinterest off. On Android, go to Settings, Privacy, Ads. Pinterest says your ads will be “less personalised” as a result. Again, not fewer.
Pinterest moves these menus from time to time. If the steps above don’t match what you see, its pages on personalised ads and blocking an account have the current ones.
In a browser on a computer
This is the one place ads can be removed. We make a free extension for it called Pinter.
Pinter takes ads and promoted pins out of what Pinterest sends to your browser before the page is laid out, so the grid closes up and there are no gaps where the ads were. That is switched on from the moment you install it. You can also choose to hide video pins, shoppable pins, images Pinterest has flagged as AI, pins that contain words you list, and the strip of suggested searches.
What to know before you install it:
- It works in Chrome, Edge, Brave and Arc on a computer. It doesn’t work on a phone, and it can’t reach inside the Pinterest app.
- It only runs on pinterest.com, and it doesn’t change your Pinterest account or settings.
- When you change a filter, pins already on screen stay until you reload the page.
- It only knows an image is AI if Pinterest has flagged it, so some get through.
- When you save your filters, Pinter sends your choices to our analytics. The Pinter page says exactly what.
Pinter isn’t the only extension that hides Pinterest ads. Search the Chrome Web Store for “Pinterest ads” and you will find several.
Will an ordinary ad blocker do it?
Often not. Most ad blockers work by stopping your browser loading things from advertising companies’ servers. Pinterest’s ads are pins. They arrive from Pinterest, in the same data as every other pin, so there is nothing separate to stop. A blocker needs rules written for Pinterest’s pages to hide them. Some have such rules, and how well they hold up changes whenever Pinterest changes its pages.
In the Pinterest app on a phone
Extensions and ad blockers work in browsers. They can’t change what another app shows, so in the Pinterest app the three settings above are all there is. You can make the ads less personal and block the advertisers you see most. You can’t remove them.
If you are in the app to find new things, that is the end of the road. If you are there to get back to things you have already saved, there is another way.
Your own boards without ads, on a phone
Pinx is our app for iPhone, iPad and Android. It isn’t Pinterest with the ads taken out. It is a separate app that signs in with your Pinterest account and opens the boards you’ve made. It shows the pins you saved and nothing else, so there is no home feed, no promoted pins and no suggestions.
That comes with limits, and it is better to know them first:
- Pinx can’t show your home feed, search Pinterest or open boards you follow. Pinterest only lets other apps open boards you created.
- It can’t play video pins. It shows the cover, with a button that opens the pin in Pinterest.
- It only reads. To save a new pin or start a board, you still use Pinterest.
So Pinx is for the part of Pinterest that happens after the finding: going back to the kitchen you’re planning, showing a client a board without an ad appearing halfway down, or looking something up in what you’ve saved. It also lets you gather pins from different boards into shortlists, add private notes, search your pins offline and download whole boards. The features page has the full list.
Pinx is free for 25 boards of your choice, with up to 50 pins on each. Pinx Pro opens every board and every pin. It is a single purchase of £2.99 or $2.99, not a subscription, and it covers iPhone, iPad and Android. Get Pinx.

Common questions
Can you turn off ads on Pinterest?
No. Pinterest says you can’t turn ads off completely. Its settings change which ads you see.
Is there a paid version of Pinterest without ads?
No. Pinterest doesn’t offer one.
How do I get rid of ads in the Pinterest app on an iPhone?
You can’t remove them in the app. You can turn off Use of partner info in Pinterest’s settings and ask the app not to track in your iPhone’s settings, which makes the ads less personal. To look at your own boards with no ads, use Pinx.
Does hiding ads or blocking advertisers mean fewer ads?
Pinterest doesn’t say it does. It describes hiding an ad as feedback that makes future ads more relevant, and blocking as a way to stop seeing one advertiser.
Does Pinx block ads in Pinterest?
No. Pinx doesn’t change Pinterest at all. It is a separate app that shows only your own boards, which have no ads in them.
Pinx and Pinter are independent. They are not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by Pinterest, Inc. We checked Pinterest’s settings against its help pages on 30 September 2026.
